Staples, Inc. Announces New $1.5 Billion Share Buyback

Staples, Inc., (Nasdaq: SPLS) announced the repurchase of up to $1.5 billion of its common stock. This new share repurchase program replaces another previously authorized $1.5 billion share repurchase program. Under the previous program, the company had repurchased approximately $1.2 billion of common stock as of June 13, 2007.

Staples, Inc. invented the office superstore concept in 1986 and today is the world’s largest office products company.



With 715 million shares outstanding, the $1.5 billion program will yield $2.10 per share.  With an annualized dividend of $0.29, the Total Payout will be $2.39 per share.  At a share price of $25, the Total Payout Yield will be 9.6% if the program is completed over the next 4 quarters.
